The well-ordered life of Jeanne, a high school philosophy teacher, suddenly spins into disorder when a young stranger she meets at a party involves her in a devilish scheme. Natacha, an adolescent pianist with a penchant for subtly playing her elders, invites Jeanne to her father's home...hoping to make a match of the two and send her father's current lover, Eve, packing. But, when the tempestuous Eve arrives at every "chance" meeting between Jeanne and Natacha's father, fireworks of an entirely different sort erupt, and everyone is forced to examine his or her own philosophies on love, relationships and other sordid affairs of the human heart.

A shy young man named Gaspard (Poupaud) takes a vacation in a small village of Normandy, France, to meet his girlfriend Lena. During an unsuccessful attempt to locate Lena, he meets Margot (Langlet) a pretty local servant girl. They become fast friends, and soon Gaspard finds himself physically attracted to Margot, but she has other plans for the lad and introduces him to a girl in town whom fancies him. In the midst of all this excitement, Gaspard attempts to remain true to his original lover, Lena, but is he really in love?
An Autumn Tale (aka: Conte d'automne): Rohmer's light-hearted comedy, set amongst the vineyards of the Rhone Valley, concludes his film cycle 'The Tales Of The Four Seasons'.
Best friends Magali, a widow, and Isabelle, a happily married bookshop owner, have known each other since childhood. Although Magali enjoys her life as a winegrower, she admits she would relish some male companionship: a confession that prompts Isabelle to secretly find her a man. After placing a lonely hearts ad, Isabelle chooses a suitor, but finds that things don't quite go according to plan...
